Godly Play: Ages 3-Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd
Godly Play is a program that gives a child the freedom to find themselves by hearing God's story through participation and activity. Along with the freedom that the child is given to "explore," there is some structure to Godly Play, and that's where the parents come into the picture. The structure has to do with time and space. Children will need to arrive at the Parish House in time for the 10:30 start. It would be helpful NOT to have your child dressed in their Sunday best for the program. The time factors are important so that the natural progression of the morning can take place; settling in, storytelling, activity, and the sacred meal. Although the sacred meal is one of the most important aspects of the program, it is not Holy Communion. The parents are to bring their children to the parish house at 10:30. This year the classes will be shortened to allow children time to come into the church for Holy Communion. The space in the Parish House that the children will be using will be regarded as "Worship Space." The space belongs to the children and the group teachers for that day. No parents will be allowed into the space.
