Choir
The adult choir of St. Thomas' has a long tradition of excellence in the finest of Anglican church music and is a remarkably skilled and dedicated group of musicians. It numbers 15 singers, with three paid staff singers leading their sections. The choir provides leadership and sings an anthem and other music when appropriate at the 10:30 am. service. We offer a jazz mass and a folk mass bimonthly. The organist plays hymns for the 8:00 a.m. service once a month. The Wednesday Prayer service has brought a keyboard into the chapel and this congregation has an active music ministry The pianos in the sanctuary and Rooke Hall are good instruments that have recently had essential maintenance work done. The choir maintains an impressive schedule. In addition to weekly and feast thy services, the choir has sung Evensong and Compline services. St. Thomas' has had an extensive concert series as well, including Abendmusik concerts and noontime Meditations, and has a tradition of performances of works for voices and orchestra, chamber instruments, and brass choir. The choir has sung twice at the National Cathedral in Washington D.C. and has traveled to England to sing and study Anglican music. The expense of such endeavors has been supported by the budget and by support from individual contributors.
