TERMS FOR EACH VESTRY MEMBER

Father Curt Moermond (Rector)

Pat Johnson (Deacon), Deacon Pat Johnson has been a member of St. Thomas' since 1989, ministering first as a lay person and then as an ordained deacon since 1999. A deacon's ministry can best be described as that of "Table Fellowship", which is the term used in Luke's Gospel to describe Jesus' ability to welcome the stranger, the outcast, and the fearful into a safe place where they can feel a sense of compassion and hope. It is also a ministry that serves as a bridge between the church and the world. Dn. Johnson works professionally during the week in the area of law enforcement and criminal justice. Some of her community involvement includes the Coalition Against Domestic Violence, the Infant/Fetal Mortality Review Team, and the Sexual Assault Response Team. Her advocacy and resource referral work also extends into areas such as 12-Step recovery and targets populations such as the elderly and disabled. At. St. Thomas' her ministry focus varies but includes providing pastoral care to those who are ill, home bound, or in assisted living; and supporting the Lay Eucharistic Ministry team, as well as the chalice ministers, lectors, and acolytes. She is also a member of the local Integrity organization through the national church. Adult Christian education is of great interest to her and she has been a mentor for EFM (Education For Ministry). Pat was recently awarded one of the Women of Excellence in Sioux City.
